Leben

Ivaldi wurde als Sohn italienischer Eltern im ägyptischen Alexandria geboren. Er studierte an der Musikschule "Benedetto Marcello" in Venedig Klavier bei Agostino Dal Vesco und von 1895 bis 1897 in Bologne Komposition bei Alessandro Busi und Cesare Dall’Olio. 1898 besuchte er einen Kompositionskurs Giuseppe Martuccis. Im selben Jahr begann er seine Laufbahn als Konzertpianist.

Mit Bruno Mugellini und Guido Alberto Fano gründete Ivaldi 1903 den Kammermusikverein Concerti Mugellini. Neben seiner Arbeit als Kammermusiker verfolgte er aber weiterhin auch seine Solistenlaufbahn. Von 1901 bis 1930 war er Professor für Klavier am Konservatorium von Bologna, wo u. a. Emilio Russi, Antonio Belletti, Guido Agosti, Franco Ferrara und Francesco Molinari Pradelli seine Schüler waren. Danach unterrichtete er bis 1942 an der Musikschule Vassura Baroncini in Imola.

Zum kompositorischen Werk Ivaldis zählen zwei Orchesterstücke (Lento e tranquillo und Ouverture), eine Piccola Suite und drei Liedersammlungen nach Gedichten von Ada Negri, Giovanni Pascoli und Enrico Panzacchi. Sein Lehrwerk Sull’insegnamento del pianoforte erschien 1913.
